Editing Never Be Alone & First Draft

Here is our first draft of the final Never Be Alone

Here is the first draft of our music video, at the moment it only involves the multi-clipping/background layer as it takes the majority of the time. Mulit-clipping took so long as we had to slow the track down 50% so we could cut to the beats due to the song having such a high BPM.

The narrative, effects, narrative, prop & establishing shots, colour correcting and grading will be added in over the christmas holiday. Some extra shots of the cabin may need to be shot.

Evidence

Here are photos and screen shots of us editing over the past week, we had some issues with creating proxy-media but once solved we were able to use a 6 angle mulit-clip in Final Cut Pro X

Here is where we edited at slowed rate of 50% and in some cases 25%

Here is a view of the angle editor and an overview of the timeline, as you can see there are an extremely large amount of cuts.

Digi Pack Research

I have done some research into other digi-packs from well known and successful artists to gain inspiration for our own digi-pack. It is clear that each digi-pack is created to focus on the main artist. Rihanna has close up's of her face on most of her cd covers. Therefore we wanted to do the same in our digi pack as this focuses the attention to the artist.

A lot of digi-packs have a background theme to them, such as Rihanna and Michael Jackson. We liked this idea because it made the covers stand out and look much more attractive above the rest. As a result of this we decided to use an image that  gave the same effect. A beach and someone sitting in the middle looked the best for our video.

We changed the inside of our Digi pack from the outside, by creating coloured blocks to match our website, on photoshop cs6. This was influenced mostly by Michael Jacksons Digipack being more eye-popping on the inside.

My Design for Digi Pack - Never Be Alone

For my digi pack design I decided to use a photo that has potential colour, reflecting the music video. A young tanned male in the photo reinforcing the audience the genre of music is targeting.
I edited the photos by changing the saturation, highlights, shadows and exposure to emphasise the colour. I straightened both images and cropped them to a square size. After this I added the text in Photoshop, choosing the size and font style carefully matching the theme of the music genre. Using other album artwork to gain inspiration.

DigiPack Cover Idea 1

Here is a step by step guide and analysis on how I created my digipack draft.

I imported and extended the canvas size to create a small border. I was aiming for it to give a picture frame effect.

I then filled the border with a worn white colour.

I then de-saturated and edited the exposure to gave it an old photo effect.

I applied a worn paper texture over the image which gave it depth and made it look like a worn photograph.

To finish the look I applied a layer of scratches and black spots, lowered the opacity and blended with the existing layers. This gave it as if the photo had been damaged over time.

Overall Im very happy of the edit, although I feel the theme of it is wrong for our Artist. I feel it was edited well to look like an old photo but suits more of an indie/folk theme. I feel the artwork would suit a more acoustic folk band and not an upcoming DJ. I want to use the same techniques with layers and blending but apply it to another idea to get a more desired effect. I want to make sure in the final Digi-Pack that the space around the CD is edited so the CD becomes part of the artwork, giving it an overall consistent theme.

Asset List

Here is our Asset & Equipment List

Here is our equipment list:

Camera Equipment:
Telescopic 50mm-250mm Lens
Wide Angle 10mm-50mm Lens
Nikon D3200 1080p DSLR
Nikon Spare Battery
Nikon Lens Hood
Nikon Battery Charger

The two lenses we will be using will be for various shot types, for example the wide angle lens will be used for establishing and pan shots. The telescopic lens will be used for close ups of props and actors. The camera itself shoots in 1080p HD with manual settings so we can get the best quality. The lens hood stops un-wanted flares and helps focus. As the shoot will be 8-12 hours long a spare battery is needed.

Tripods:
Standard Tripod, Extendable Mount
Shoulder Rig

For the shoot we will use mainly the shoulder rig, it allows us to get nice steady shots whilst moving and seeing as its a party theme movement will be critical in getting the look we want. The tripod shots will be used in close-ups to make sure the camera is steady.

Lighting:
Pole
LED 12W Panel Light
Clip On Light
Extension Lead

As we shooting when the sun is down the cabin will be dark, we will use small  prop lighting but to make sure the actors faces are well light we will use a clip on lightbulb attached to a pole, this way when one of us is shooting the other can light the area with the pole. Giving the camera light to focus and showing the actors faces.

All Equipment is owned by us, we had to purchase props, spare battery and the shoulder rig for the shoot. Equipment will be purchased from ebay.co.uk.

Recce: 'Never Be Alone' & Permission Slip + Backup

Recce: 'Never Be Alone'

Here is out recce for our music video shoot, we took a shot of the outside location and the surrounding area, due to the cabin being locked on the Reece we had to use a photo from our animatic to show the inside of the cabin. The cabin will need decorating and we had planned to use flags and curtains to section off and decorate the inside. A lot of the content will be removed to open the space up and to give more room for shooting.

The cabin is a wooden and suits the role of our theme, we wanted to portray the party theme as very exclusive and in the middle of nowhere. Th cabin fits the purpose perfectly.

We gave the cabin a 9/10.

As you can see from below we have acquired a permission slip from Rose Cottage Cabin.

Backup Location

Here is our back-up location, it is T.G.I Fridays; an American style restaurant & bar. The walls are decorated in graffiti and street art. This location is a backup as we are still waiting upon permissions as it requires head office approval and we would have to alter the theme slightly. We really love the look and how it is decorated but until permissions and themes are cleared it is only a back-up.

Shot List

Here is our shot list for our music video, it includes shots for the Party & Narrative side of the video.
